Some people tell us they never got their evening reminder from SoulFrame Journal on Android. Usually it isn’t that the app “forgot”—it’s how Android now handles notifications, especially if you’ve been with us since the early days.
Why the reminder might not appear
From Android 13 onward, apps can’t send notifications until you allow them. That’s a good thing for privacy; it also means a one-time “Allow” matters.
SoulFrame Journal asks for notification permission after your first journal entry, when the habit is real and the nudge makes sense. If you installed the app before we added that flow, permission may still be off—and Android won’t show the prompt again. You’ll need to enable it once in Settings.
You don’t need to keep the app open for the reminder to arrive. It’s scheduled on your phone and delivered by the system, even when SoulFrame Journal is closed.
How to turn reminders on
- Open Settings on your phone
- Go to Apps → SoulFrame (or SoulFrame Journal)
- Tap Notifications
- Turn notifications On
On some phones the path is slightly different (e.g. Settings → Apps → SoulFrame → Notifications), but the idea is the same.
If you use Do Not Disturb or a focus mode, make sure SoulFrame isn’t silenced there too.
When the reminder fires
If you haven’t journaled that day, we send a single gentle reminder at 8:30pm (your local time). If you’ve already reflected, we stay quiet. No streak guilt, no spam—just a quiet nudge at a time many people naturally wind down.
Why it matters
Reflection works best as maintenance, not a crisis tool. A calm prompt at the right moment can be the difference between “I’ll do it tomorrow” and five minutes with your thoughts. We’d rather send one thoughtful reminder than pepper you with alerts.
Still not seeing it?
Double-check notification permission, Do Not Disturb, and that you haven’t already journaled today. On some Android phones, battery or background restrictions can affect delivery—if reminders still don’t appear, check that SoulFrame isn’t restricted in battery settings.
